Firing the starting pistol on the next phase of Bad Medic Records’ groundbreaking ‘Trading Roots’ campaign, “Bombay Moves” sees two of the hottest properties in British and Indian urban music join forces to create something that is set to redefine genres. 

Across the Trading Roots, UK icon Nika D has been revisiting his Indian heritage with a series of collaborations with some of the most popular and innovative MCs in the exploding Indian rap scene.

Following working with Mumbai’s MC Altaf and Karan Kanchan on Burn in 2023, he handpicked Delhi-based rap superstar Ikka for the next tune - who jumped at the opportunity - and the results are nothing short of a cultural phenomenon. 

“Bombay Moves” fuses UK grime and drill with classical Indian instrumentation, samples and percussion - with inspirational lyrical fire being spat in English and Indian dialects accompanied by ice cold hard-hitting production and memorable hook “UK to India, trading roots… Nika D, Ikka, we making moves.”

Launched with an accompanying video shot in the heart of Mumbai in both stunning and gritty locations, this rap-fusion banger is certain to push boundaries that have yet been explored in this multi-continental collaboration.

“With this track I set out to fuse my grime roots with classical Indian elements - something that sounded both energetic, authentic and symbolic. It needed to be cohesive with my career as part of Virus Syndicate but with a fresh perspective and flavours.

“Choosing an Indian rapper who could hold his own was also essential, so bringing in a serious talent like Ikka was a big moment for the track - with his legacy and pioneering approach to the Indian scene. I’m super hyped with how it’s turned out. Bombay Moves is a representation of the boundaries we’re breaking with this Trading Roots project.”
